CASE STUDY:

Mirantis.com

Improving visual communication, page speeds and user experience.

Role: Project Manager, Web Designer, Illustrator
Tools: Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate for Ipad, Hotjar, Monday.com

  • Self-reflection

We looked at heatmaps and user activity using the tool Hotjar to better understand what our site visitors were looking for and how they were interacting with our content. It was clear that we had too many items in the nav and were doing a poor job of “chunking”. Our illustrations were also a bit off-brand and overly complex. On top of that, our Google Page Speed Insights score was suboptimal.

  • Coming together

I worked with members of our product marketing, content, and demand gen teams to build a new navigation hierarchy that put our best features in the spotlight and reduced clutter. I also took revised and net new content and created page mockups along with new illustrations, going through an iteration cycle with multiple stakeholders before handing off to our Front End Developer to build.

  • Ludicrous speed

Working with our SEO expert and Front End Developer, we went through a six-month process of researching and implementing optimizations to improve our Google Page Speed Insights score. Through a combination of lazy loading, anachronous JS loading, image optimization, and completely rebuilding our CSS file, we were able to take our page speeds from mobile: 15 / desktop: 40 to mobile: 97 / desktop: 95.

  • A living organism

Overall, we launched a redesigned homepage, navigation, and seven product pages. We're always collecting data and continuing to optimize the site on all fronts using A/B testing, heatmap analysis and user feedback.
